La première journée des phases de groupe de la CAN 2023 s’est achevée ce soir avec la victoire du Maroc, prétendant au titre. Outre les Lions de l’Atlas qui ont tiré leur épingle du jeu, des équipes comme la Tunisie, l’Égypte, le Nigéria, le Cameroun ou encore l’Algérie ont raté leur entrée en lice. Un début difficile qui peut sembler préjudiciable pour ces équipes lors des prochaines journées de poule.
La 34è édition de la CAN a déjà lancé les hostilités avec son lot de surprises et de “déception”. Si la Côte d’Ivoire, favorite pour le sacre final n’a pas raté son entrée en lice, tel n’est pas le cas des autre grands favoris du tournoi, notamment la Tunisie, l’Algérie, le Cameroun, le Nigéria et la Tunisie.
La Tunisie surprise par la Namibie et déjà en grand danger !
Pour sa 21è participation dont sa 16è consécutive avec une finale remportée en 2004 et une demi-finale en 2019, la Tunisie rêve grand dans cette édition 2023. Sauf que pour son entrée en lice, les Aigles de Carthage ont été surpris par la modeste équipe de la Namibie, 1-0. Une défaite non moins surprenante au vu de la physionomie de la rencontre et qui met en danger les hommes de Jalel Kadri.
En effet, pour leur deuxième match, ils seront face au Mali ; la belle, jeune, talentueuse et séduisante équipe malienne. Cette dernière est venue à bout de l’Afrique du Sud, 2-0. Ce sera difficile pour la Tunisie de battre le Mali, qui reste sur une victoire à ce même stade de la compétition en 2022 contre les Tunisiens.
L’Égypte, le Cameroun, l’Algérie et le Nigéria face à une adversité de taille
Hormis l’Égypte, le Cameroun et l’Algérie qui font partie des deux des quatre derniers vainqueurs de la CAN sont un tout petit peu en “danger”. Ces trois nations et le Nigéria faisant partie des favoris auront besoin de résultat au prochain match. Cependant, elles feront face à une adversité de taille.
Tout d’abord, l’Égypte sera face au Ghana le 18 janvier. Les Pharaons qui ont été accrochés par le Mozambique voudra se racheter contre les Blacks Stars, qui eux, ont perdu contre le Cap-Vert. Cette affiche aux allures de finale pourrait être “fatale” pour l’une ou l’autre équipe. Aucune erreur n’est permise.
Ensuite le Cameroun. Demi-finaliste et 3è de la dernière édition organisée sur son sol en 2021, les Lions Indomptables n’ont pas su domptés le Sili National lors de leur confrontation au premier match. La bande à Rigobert Song se trouve dans une position délicate au moment de croiser, le champion en titre, le Sénégal le 19 janvier. Ce duel de Lions aura sûrement des étincelles dans l’air. Gare aux Camerounais ! La défaite est interdite.
Le Nigéria, très attendu avec son armada offensive emmenée par Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman et Moses Simon entre autres n’a pas pu faire mouche devant la Guinée Équatoriale. Ils ont même été menés au score avant de voir le meilleur joueur africain de l’année permettre aux Super Eagles de recoller au tableau d’affichage. Ultra favoris, les nigérians finissent par être accrochés par le Nzalang Nacional. Un nul qui n’augure rien de bon avant leur confrontation contre la Côte d’Ivoire ce jeudi.
La bande à Osimhen fera face aux Éléphants de Côte d’Ivoire, qui de surcroît est le pays organisateur. Ce sera difficile pour les Super Eagles d’arracher une victoire contre les ivoiriens qui vont jouer devant leur public, et qui fera bloc derrière leur équipe nationale.
La tâche s’annonce ardue pour le Nigéria. En cas d’une déconvenue, ce sera très compliqué pour le champion d’Afrique 2013 de se qualifier pour les huitièmes de finale. Les hommes de José Peseiro n’ont plus droit à l’erreur. Une victoire s’impose !
Enfin l’Algérie. Les Fennecs étaient jusqu’à la fin de leur première mi-temps, l’équipe qui montrait de belles choses dans ce tournoi. Il y avait de l’envie, un pressing haut, une fluidité dans les transmissions de balles avec à la clé un but de Bagdad Bounedjah et un deuxième refusé par la Var. Hélas ! En seconde mi-temps, les hommes de Djamel Belmadi ont manqué de fraîcheur pour continuer sur leur lancée.
Ils se feront surprendre par un pénalty obtenu et transformé par Mabululu, entrée en cours de jeu. Derrière, il a fallu avoir du grabuge dans le camp algérien pour manque de tonicité. Le match se termine finalement sur un score de parité, 1-1. Le 20 janvier, l’Algérie affronte le Burkina Faso pour ce qui pourrait être le gros duel de cette poule D. Les algériens n’ont pas droit à se saborder au risque de compromettre leur qualification et si possible dit adieu au titre tant convoité.
