Hugo Broos a été donc interrogé sur le rôle des ses gardiens de but. Le technicien belge a déclaré : « Mes gardiens ont à chaque fois joué un rôle important. Ondoa en 2017, je me rappelle que lors du 3e match de poule il fait de superbes arrêts, et en quart face au Sénégal, il stoppe le penalty de Mané, donc il a été décisif. Ronwen Williams, je me rappelle qu’à la dernière minute contre le Cap-Vert, il sauve une grosse occasion, il stoppe 4 penaltys et deux autres contre la RD Congo en match de classement. Ils ont été décisifs et méritent cette place, et ça compte aussi, car on dit souvent qu’une bonne équipe c’est un bon axe, donc une bonne colonne vertébrale, et ça part du gardien ».
Hugo Broos a par la suite déclaré qui a aimé sa victoire avec le Cameroun en 2017 que la troisième place obtenue à l’issue de la CAN 2023. Le technicien a profité de notre micro pour donner de conseil à Samuel Eto’o, l’actuel président de la FECAFOOT. Hugo Broos a laissé entendre que : « Samuel Eto’o a toujours eu une très grande personnalité. C’est pour cela qu’il pense qu’il doit être partout. Il prend souvent des initiatives même au moment il ne doit pas le faire. Il doit laisser travailler les gens. Même s’il a l’expérience, parce que c’était vraiment un très grand joueur, il doit se distancer un petit peu. Samuel Eto’o veut faire du bien pour son pays, mais parfois il est trop sur l’affaire. C’est pas toujours bien parce que tu mets les gens en doute ».
