Un moment pour ce dernier de porter haut les Super Eagles du Nigéria, lui qui était attendu depuis si longtemps.
Absent lors de CAN 2021, Victor Osimhen est très attendu pour cette 34e édition. Ceci, en raison de son statut de buteur et de ses performances tant avec le Nigéria qu’avec son club Naples. Le buteur des Super Eagles est actuellement considéré comme le meilleur attaquant (N°9) africain en exercice. Un statut dont il a le devoir de confirmer le mérite.

Présent lors de la CAN 2019, Victor Osimhen n’a disputé qu’un match sous les couleurs du Nigéria. Jeune à l’époque, il était prédestiné à un avenir meilleur avec les Super Eagles. Malheureusement, l’attaquant de Naples a manqué la CAN 2021 en raison d’une blessure.
Aujourd’hui, le moment est plus que jamais venu pour l’ancien Lillois de porter la sélection nationale. Meilleur buteur de la phase éliminatoire avec 10 buts, Victor Osimhen constitue l’espoir du peuple nigérian de s’offrir un quatrième sacre continental. Et ce, 10 ans après leur dernier couronnement.
Année 2023, la saison de gloire de Victor Osimhen
La saison 2022-2023 est sans nul doute la meilleure de Victor Osimhen à nos jours. Auteur de 26 buts en 32 matchs la saison écoulée, l’international Nigérian est devenu le premier Africain à terminer meilleur buteur de la Série A italienne. Une performance qui a conduit son club Naples au titre de champion d’Italie. Un sacre recherché par les Partenopei depuis 30 ans.
Avec ce total de 26 buts en une saison, Victor Osimhen a battu le record de Samuel Eto’o. Ce dernier était le seul africain ayant inscrit 21 buts en Série A, et ce, avec l’Inter Milan (2010-2011). Outre Samuel Eto’o, George Weah s’est vu détrôner par l’attaquant nigérian. En inscrivant 57 buts au total avec Naples, il a franchi la barre des 46 réalisations pour un Africain. Un record entre-temps détenu par le seul Africain Ballon d’Or d’Europe.
Grâce à ses performances en club et à son statut de meilleur buteur des éliminatoires de la CAN, Victor Osimhen s’est vu récompenser. L’attaquant nigérian s’est adjugé le titre de Ballon d’Or Africain 2023, synonyme du meilleur joueur d’Afrique de l’année. Passé par les différentes catégories d’âges, Osimhen a remporté une Coupe du Monde avec les U 17 et une CAN avec les U 23 en 2015. La CAN 2023, pourrait être son premier titre avec les Super Eagles.
