Aliou Cissé est né le 24 mars 1976 à Ziguinchor, dans le sud du Sénégal. Il s’est montré très tôt prometteur en tant que footballeur dans son pays d’origine avant de le quitter avec sa famille à l’âge de 9 ans pour s’installer en France. Il a commencé sa carrière professionnelle très tôt et a rejoint son premier club à l’âge de 18 ans. Il a joué comme défenseur et milieu de terrain au plus haut niveau jusqu’en 2009. Aliou Cissé a passé la plupart de son temps à jouer au football en France notamment à Lille, au PSG ou encore à Montpellier, mais a également joué quelques années en Angleterre. Après sa carrière de footballeur, Aliou Cissé devient entraîneur. Avec près de 10 ans d’expérience, il s’est déjà forgé une solide réputation en remportant la CAN 2021 avec le Sénégal. Aujourd’hui, il est considéré comme l’un des meilleurs à son poste sur le continent.
Au soir de sa carrière professionnelle, Aliou Cissé s’est découvert une nouvelle passion non loin des pelouses. Reconverti entraîneur, il a retrouvé les Lions de la Téranga en 2012. Adjoint de Karim Sega Diouf, ils ont assuré l’intérim à la tête de l’équipe nationale entre février et avril de cette année. Ce qui a par la suite ouvert l’équipe olympique qu’il a dirigé aux Jeux olympiques de 2012. Plus tard, il est devenu l’entraîneur principal de l’équipe olympique et a également conduit l’équipe nationale U20 du Sénégal à participer aux Jeux de la Francophonie en 2013. Mais ce n’est qu’en 2015 qur Aliou Cissé entre de plein pieds dans la cour des grands, en prenant les rênes de l’équipe nationale
Aliou Cissé, le succès au bout de plusieurs échecs répétitifs !
ALiou Cissé devient le sélectionneur national de l’équipe nationale du Sénégal le 4 mars 2015. Il est nommé par la Fédération Sénégalaise de Football en remplacement à Alain GIresse. C’est le début d’une longue histoire toujours en cours. Mais déjà, le chemin a été fait d’embuches mais aussi de succès. LA CAN 2017 est le premier défi d’Aliou Cissé. Lors de la compétition, il arrive à atteindre les quarts de finale de la compétition et se fait sortir aux tirs au but par le Cameroun. Une élimination difficile à digérer, mais vite compenser par la qualification à la Coupe du Monde 2018. Alors que le Sénégal attendait une première participation après 2002, il réussit à obtenir le billet pour la Russie aux Lions.
Malheureusement, le Sénégal engrange 4 points, mais ne parvient pas à sortir la tête de son groupe. La CAN 2019 est une nouvelle occasion pour le Sénégal de faire mieux que 2017. Aliou Cissé saisit sa chance, construit une équipe compétitive qui va braver vents et marées pour atteindre la finale de la compétition organisée par l’Egypte. Face à l’Algérie, le Sénégal est encore malchanceux et perd 1-0 et ne se contente que de la médaille d’argent. Aliou Cissé et sa bande persevère et fait un parcours sembable à la CAN 2021 au Cameroun. Cette fois, c’est la bonne. Face à l’Egypte en finale, les Lions s’imposent aux tirs au but et gagne pour la première fois de leur histoire la compétition. La fête ne s’arrête pas là. Aliou Cissé s’offre un autre record en qualifiant le Sénégal pour une deuxième Coupe du Monde d’affilée. Le Sénégal fait mieux, atteint les huitièmes de finale, avant de se faire sortir par l’Angleterre. Aliou Cissé est toujours en place, et les attentes sont toujours énormes.
