On en sait un peu plus sur les termes du contrat qui lie la Fédération algérienne de Football à son nouveau sélectionneur Vladimir Petkovic. A en croire le premier responsable de la faitière algérienne de football, il ne lui a pas demandé de remporter la prochaine CAN. Mais déjà passer le cap des phases de groupes, ce qui n’a pas été le cas lors des deux précédentes éditions.
« Petkovic est le meilleur profil pour l’équipe nationale. Après une short-list de trois techniciens établie par une commission ad-hoc, où figuraient également les deux Portugais Carlos Queiroz, ce dernier s’étant excusé, et José Peseiro, nous avons opté pour Petkovic par rapport à plusieurs critères, dont notamment son vécu avec la sélection suisse », a-t-il fait savoir, avant d’ajouter que : « Les objectifs pour la CAN 2025 ? Nous ne pouvons pas demander à Petkovic d’aller gagner le titre. L’Algérie reste sur 2 éliminations de suite au premier tour de coupe d’Afrique. Nous voulons déjà nous qualifier pour les 1/8 de finale. ».
Par ailleurs, selon d’autres sources, Vladimir Petkovic est lié à la FAF jusqu’au 31 décembre 2025. Et en cas de qualification pour la Coupe du Monde, il sera reconduit automatiquement jusqu’au 31 juillet 2026. Dans son contrat, obligation lui serait faite de rester sur le sol algérien pendant au moins trois semaines dans un mois.
