La Côte d’Ivoire affrontait le Nigeria ce jeudi soir dans un choc de la deuxième journée du groupe A de la CAN 2023. Devant leur public, les Eléphants n’ont pas pu réussir la bonne opération de faire tomber les Super Eagles. Ils ont été battus sur un score étriqué d’un but à 0.
Ce duel entre la Côte d’Ivoire et le Nigeria était vraiment digne d’un véritable choc. Une bataille entre deux équipes annoncées parmi les favoris au sacre final de cette 34e Coupe d’Afrique des Nations. La première mi-temps a été d’un très bon niveau mais sans véritables occasions. La seule étincelle des 45 premières minutes reste cette lourde frappe de Seko Fofana à la 31e minute, mais très bien repoussée par Stanley Nwabali. Super Eagles et Eléphants retourneront aux vestiaires avec un score de parité de 0 à 0. Après une première mi-temps très disputée, le Nigeria prend l’avantage face à la Côte d’Ivoire dans cette deuxième affiche du jour dans le groupe A de la CAN 2023.
C’est un but qui vient mettre les Eléphants sous pression. A peine sont-ils revenus des vestiaires que les Super Eagles ont frappé au bon moment. A la 52e minute, Victor Osimhen obtient un penalty que l’arbitre valide après consultation de la VAR. Sans trembler, William Troost-Ekong prend Yahia Fofana à contre pied et ouvre le score pour le Nigeria à la 55e minute. Le Nigeria mène désormais 1-0. Les Ivoiriens sont obligés de prendre le jeu à leur compte pour tenter de rétablir la parité. Jean-Louis Gasset effectue plusieurs changements avec les entrées de Nicolas Pépé, Jonathan Bamba, Oumar Diakité, Karim Konaté et Jean-Michael Séri.
Malgré ces nombreux changements, la Côte d’Ivoire pousse mais sans pour autant trouver la faille dans la défense adverse. En face, les Super Eagles font preuve de solidité et de ténacité pour tenir leur avantage au score. Les neuf minutes de temps additionnel n’ont pas suffi pour inverser la tendance et les Eléphants s’incluent sur ce score d’un but à 0. Les Super Eagles se relancent et reviennent à hauteur des Ivoiriens au classement avant la dernière journée de la phase de groupes de la CAN 2023.
